Parking at Porter Drive
Free employee parking, but permit required
Parking will be free at Porter Drive, but employees who drive will need to display a permit on their vehicle so that parking can be monitored. Short-term monthly permits (through 8/31/08) will be provided at the Parking & Transportation Services (P&TS) office.
Please note that vehicles displaying a current "A" or "C" permit do not require a "Z" permit to park at Porter Drive; thus, you may not need to submit an application for August 2008 "Z" parking if you choose to keep and continue paying for a current "A" or "C" permit.
Note also that the "Z" permit is only valid at the Porter Drive site. If you want a permit that is valid at both the Porter Drive site and on campus, you may purchase (or continue paying for) an "A" or "C" permit or purchase daily parking "scratchers" to park on campus. (See "Visiting the main campus with a vehicle" for options to park at the main campus.)
Long-term annual "Z" permits will be available in late August when all FY 2008-09 permits go on sale. The "Z" permit is only available for Porter Drive employees. Unauthorized vehicles not displaying a "Z", "A", or "C" parking permit, or not bearing the university seal/logo are subject to towing. Service vehicle stalls will be available for university vehicles only.
Complete the 2007-08 application form to request a "Z" permit for the remainder of this academic year (through August 2008). You may fax your application to the P&TS office at 650.724.8676. The "Z" permit is not currently available for online orders.
If you want to return your "A" or "C" permit to stop payroll deduction or request a refund if one is available, you must return your permit in person and cannot use the fax option. Note that if you signed up for payroll deduction, you must return your permit by Friday, August 1, to allow for cancellation of the August 2008 parking fee.
Parking for short-term visits
There will be about 30 parking spaces set aside for short-term visitors without permits. However, visitors will be required to check in with the receptionist at the main entrance after parking their cars, including carpool riders and/or Commute Club members without parking permits.

Returning your campus commuter parking permit
If you bought a campus commuter ("A" or "C") parking permit through August, you have the option to keep or return your "A" or "C" permit. If you keep your permit, you will forfeit the option for a refund, if available, or will continue to pay for the permit until its expiration date.
If you want to request a refund or stop payments on your permit, you must come to the Parking & Transportation Services office to return the permit and request any credit/refund for the unused month(s). Note that if you signed up for payroll deduction, you must return your permit by the 2nd day of the month, to allow for cancellation of that month's parking fee. For cash and credit card purchases, the daily scratcher rate is deducted from the refund amount beginning on the 1st day of the month. If more than 4 calendar days have elapsed, there is no residual permit value available for refund.
When you return your campus commuter parking permit, you may request a Porter Drive "Z" permit in exchange.

Carpooling and the Off-campus Commute Club at Porter Drive
We believe that parking availability will be adequate for all who choose to drive, but employees are encouraged to use alternative transportation to commute to Porter Drive whenever possible. Carpooling and Off-campus Commute Club rewards and incentives will be available. In addition, Commute Club members can park for up to 6 days /month (subject to change) in the "Visitor" spaces at Porter Drive, but are required to check in with the receptionist at the main entrance after parking their cars.
Clean Air Cash
Porter Drive worksite employees will be eligible to receive Clean Air Cash (CAC) as long as they do not have a Stanford issued parking permit, including the Z permit.
Carpool Credit
For employees who carpool to Porter Drive, one member of the carpool should apply for a "Z" parking permit while the remaining member(s) can enroll in CAC. It will be the responsibility of the carpool members to share the CAC equitably.
Porter Drive employees who carpool with on-campus employees also qualify for the Commute Club. "A" or "C" commuter and carpool permits will be considered valid while parking at Porter Drive. Porter Drive "Z" permits will not be valid for parking anywhere on the main campus.
