Parking at Porter Drive
Free employee parking with “Z” permit
Parking is free at Porter Drive for employees who display a valid “Z” permit on their vehicles. The “Z” permit is only available for Porter Drive employees. Complete the parking permit application form to request a “Z” permit. You may fax your application to the P&TS office at 650.724.8676. The “Z” permit is not currently available through online applications.
“Z” permits valid ONLY at Porter Drive
The “Z” permit is only valid at the Porter Drive site. If you want a permit that is valid at both the Porter Drive site and on campus, you may purchase (or continue paying for) an “A” or “C” permit or purchase daily parking “scratchers” to park on campus. (See “Visiting the main campus with a vehicle” for options to park at the main campus.) Note that “Z” permits are not valid in designated “Visitor” parking spaces.
“A” and “C” permits also valid at Porter Drive
Please note that vehicles displaying a current “A” or “C” permit do not require a “Z” permit to park at Porter Drive; thus, you may not need to apply for “Z” parking if you choose to keep and continue paying for a current “A” or “C” permit. If you want to return your “A” or “C” permit to stop payroll deduction or request a refund if one is available, you must return your permit in person and cannot use the fax option. Note that “A”, or “C” permits are not valid in designated “Visitor” parking spaces.
Parking is monitored at Porter Drive
Vehicles not displaying a “Z”, “A”, “C”, or “Service Vehicle” parking permit are subject to towing. Exceptions include visitor parking and vehicles bearing the university seal/logo. Service vehicle stalls will be available for university vehicles and/or vehicles displaying a valid “Service Vehicle” permit only. Note that “Z”, “A”, “C”, or “Service Vehicle” permits are not valid in designated “Visitor” parking spaces.
Visitor parking
There will be about 25 parking spaces set aside for short-term visitors without permits. However, visitors will be required to check in with the receptionist at the main entrance after parking their cars, including carpool riders and/or Commute Club members who occasionally drive and park without parking permits. Note that “Z”, “A”, “C”, or “Service Vehicle” permits are not valid in designated “Visitor” parking spaces.

Carpooling and the Off-campus Commute Club at Porter Drive
We believe that parking availability will be adequate for all who choose to drive, but employees are encouraged to use alternative transportation to commute to Porter Drive whenever possible. Carpooling and Off-campus Commute Club rewards and incentives are available. In addition, Commute Club members can park for up to 6 days /month (subject to change) in the "Visitor" spaces at Porter Drive, but are required to check in with the receptionist at the main entrance after parking their cars.
Clean Air Cash
Porter Drive worksite employees will be eligible to receive Clean Air Cash (CAC) as long as they do not have a Stanford issued parking permit, including the “Z” permit.
Carpool Credit
For employees who carpool to Porter Drive, one member of the carpool should apply for a “Z” parking permit while the remaining member(s) can enroll as a Clean Air Cash Commute Club member. It will be the responsibility of the carpool members to share their Clean Air Cash equitably.
Porter Drive employees who carpool with on-campus employees also qualify for the Commute Club. “A” or “C” commuter and carpool permits will be considered valid while parking at Porter Drive. Porter Drive “Z” permits will not be valid for parking anywhere on the main campus.
Join the Commute Club by submitting an application form or applying online.
