Using any form of alternative transportation will be LESS expensive than driving alone every day, particularly with the range of incentives Stanford offers to its commuters using alternative transportation.

In addition, using alternative transportation enables you to help protect the environment:

Why is the reduction of carbon emissions important? Human activities (e.g., burning fossil fuels through gasoline-powered vehicles) can contribute to changes in the composition of the Earth’s atmosphere. Atmospheric greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, have increased by 17 percent from 1990 to 2007, a trend leading to an increase in the heat-trapping nature of the earth's atmosphere, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

How can you help reduce greenhouse gas emissions? Using alternative transportation whenever possible is a great way to reduce the amount of emissions you produce. Here are some of the ways you can participate in and benefit from our programs.
