1) Apply online today for 2009-10 parking permits or Commute Club memberships
New permits required on Sept. 1; Commute Club must be renewed every September

It is time to apply for your 2009-10 parking permit or enroll in the Commute Club for the new academic year. Before you purchase a parking permit, consider joining the Commute Club, which pays up to $282 per year in Clean Air Cash or Carpool Credit to eligible commuters who don't drive alone to Stanford. If you are a current Commute Club member, be sure to re-enroll for 2009-10 to continue your membership: http://transportation.stanford.edu/orders.

2) What you need to know about 2009-10 parking permits
No rate increase; apply online by Aug. 21 to receive permits by mail before Sept. 1

Current parking permits expire on Aug. 31, and there will be no formal grace period. Permit holders need to display new parking permits as of Sept. 1, 2009. There is no increase in permit rates for 2009-10. To see 2009-10 permit rates, visit http://transportation.stanford.edu/parking_info/ParkingInformation.shtml#prices.

The most convenient option is to request your parking permit online by Friday, Aug. 21, and request "mail delivery" to avoid a trip to the P&TS office and the long lines associated with the new academic year: http://transportation.stanford.edu/orders.

If you select "mail delivery," please allow 7 to 10 days from the time your application is received. If you select "will call," you will be notified when your permit is available for pickup (usually 5 to 7 days after your application is received).

3) How do I apply for a parking permit or enroll in the Commute Club for 2009-10?
Online applications are recommended, but you have four options

Whether you are applying for a parking permit or enrolling in the Commute Club, you have the following options to apply:

1. Online (recommended): http://transportation.stanford.edu/orders
2. Fax: 650.724.8676
3. Email (scanned application): transportation@stanford.edu

Over-the-counter sales are available from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 340 Bonair Siding. For more information, call 650.723.9362 or send an email to transportation@stanford.edu.

4) The Commute Club offers up to $282 per year to Stanford commuters who don't drive alone
Request a commute plan or information on eligibility and rewards

In these tight budget times, wouldn't you rather receive $282 as a Commute Club member than pay for a parking permit? Join the Commute Club, and you will receive Clean Air Cash or Carpool Credit, free Zipcar driving credit, free hourly Enterprise car rentals, and other rewards – plus, you'll save on gas and reduce your carbon footprint (see our "Commute Cost and Carbon Emissions Calculator" at http://transportation.stanford.edu/cost). If you're already a Commute Club member, don't forget to re-enroll to continue your membership in 2009-10.

For information about the Commute Club, including eligibility, visit http://transportation.stanford.edu/commuteclub. To request a transit and/or bicycle commute plan from your front door to Stanford, send an email with your starting and ending addresses and your commute hours and days of the week to commuteclub@stanford.edu. We can even match you with a commute buddy to help you through your first time using transit or bike commuting.

For bike questions, to request bike safety information, or to attend a free bike safety class, send an e-mail to bike-information@stanford.edu or check the bicycle section of the P&TS website: http://transportation.stanford.edu/bike.

5) Last chance to enroll in the Commute Club for the 2008-09 academic year
Retroactive Clean Air Cash can be paid only within the same academic year

Did you forget to enroll in the Commute Club last September, even though you were eligible during 2008-09? If so, you need to know that enrollment for the Commute Club can be processed only within the same academic year. This means you need to apply by Aug. 26 if you were eligible for the Commute Club for all or part of the current academic year (September 2008 through August 2009). Are you unsure whether you are enrolled? Send an email to commuteclub@stanford.edu to ask about your current Commute Club status.

To request retroactive Clean Air Cash and other rewards for this academic year, you must use a paper application form and submit it by Wednesday, Aug. 26 by fax (650.724.8676), by scanning and sending it by email (commuteclub@stanford.edu), or in person (340 Bonair Siding). The form is available at this link:

If you have questions, please send an email to commuteclub@stanford.edu.

1 It is important for Parking & Transportation Services to communicate parking and alternative-transportation information to the campus. Under the 2000 General Use Permit (campus growth plan approved by Santa Clara County), the campus has a goal of "no net new peak-hour commute trips" over the life of the permit and must accommodate campus growth with a limited number of new parking spaces. Failure to achieve this goal will result in the campus being faced with costly mitigation measures.
