1) Enter drawings when you complete the upcoming Commute Survey
$1,000 grand prize, iPods, gift cards, and more for 41 lucky winners

Look for the 2008 P&TS Commute Survey in the coming weeks. If you complete the survey, you will be entered in a drawing for a $1,000 grand prize.  You could also be one of the forty other winners who will receive cash prizes, iPods, gift cards, and movie tickets.  What's more, everyone who completes the survey will help Stanford assess and improve its transportation programs.

The survey will be sent by email. Those without email addresses in our records will receive a printed version. If you do not receive a survey by April 4 or if you have questions, send an email to commuteclub@stanford.edu.

2) Limited Marguerite service and commuter parking enforcement on Monday, February 18
P&TS office also closed for President's Day holiday

During the President's Day holiday on Monday, February 18, there will be no Marguerite shuttle service except the Medical Center Loop and the Medical Center to Hillview/VA shuttles, which will operate on their regular schedules. Please email marguerite@stanford.edu with any questions.

The P&TS office will also be closed for the holiday. As a result, parking enforcement will be suspended in all "C" parking lots and in most "A" parking lots, with the exception of parking facilities serving the hospital and School of Medicine. These lots include L-9 at Quarry Extension, L-5 at Falk/CVRB, L-15 and L-16 (Clark Center to MSOB), Parking Structures 1 and 4, and the Hoover Pavilion lots. In these lots, "A" parking spaces will be enforced as usual. Parking restrictions in resident lots and special zones, such as disabled parking, red zones, fire lanes, and special permit stalls, will also be enforced as usual. Please email transportation@stanford.edu with any questions.

3) Amgen Tour of California comes to Stanford
Expect transportation impacts beginning Friday, February 15

The City of Palo Alto and Stanford University are co-hosting the prologue portion of the 2008 Amgen Tour of California on Sunday, February 17. The event will result in some campus parking impacts on Friday, February 15, so be sure to observe posted signs. There will also be road closures and Marguerite detours in effect starting Saturday, February 16.

On Saturday and Sunday, the Marguerite Midnight Express will not stop at the Oval. Riders should instead use the temporary stop at the southwest corner of Roth Way and Lomita Drive. On Sunday, the Marguerite Shopping Express will not stop at the Palo Alto Transit Center. Riders will be directed to a temporary stop at El Camino Real and Quarry Road. Please visit http://transportation.stanford.edu/marguerite/amgen for maps of these Marguerite detours.

For information on road closures and other traffic impacts, visit the Palo Alto-Stanford Prologue website at http://paloaltostanfordprologue.com/race.html.

With road closures, detours, and an influx of people attending the event, this could be a good time to use alternative transportation. If you would like commute planning assistance, send an email to commuteclub@stanford.edu.

4) Caltrain schedule change takes effect on March 3
Two new trains added to weekday evening schedule

Starting Monday, March 3, Caltrain will add one train in each direction to its weekday evening schedule. Trains will depart hourly after 7:30 pm, providing more frequent service for late evening riders. View the revised schedule at http://www.caltrain.com/timetable.html.

5) Winners announced for the Commute Club fall promotions
Look for another chance to win this spring

Congratulations to the prize winners in our Fall 2007 Commute Club promotion!  Commute Club members Kate Steilen (Division of Literatures, Cultures & Languages) and Masayuki Iwasaki (Department of Pathology) have each won $1,500 as our grand prize winners, and Serena Girvin (Stanford Hospital & Clinics) is the winner of a Carmel getaway.

Congratulations also to the prize winners in the Fall 2007 Part-Time Pledge promotion. Commuters who pledged to use alternative transportation or commute during off-peak hours at least two days a week during the fall quarter were also entered into prize drawings. Our grand prize winner, Joseph Romano (Department of Statistics) has won $1,500, and Fahim Abbasi (Department of Medicine) has won a Carmel getaway.

We are still awarding prizes to over 50 other winners from the fall promotion. The complete list of prize winners, including the winning entries from the "Picture My Commute" photo contest, will be announced next month.

If you didn't win a prize this time, don't worry. You will have another chance in our Spring 2008 Promotion. Watch for details in upcoming eUpdates.

1 It is important for Parking & Transportation Services to communicate parking and alternative-transportation information to the campus. Under the 2000 General Use Permit (campus growth plan approved by Santa Clara County), the campus has a goal of "no net new peak-hour commute trips" over the life of the permit and must accommodate campus growth with a limited number of new parking spaces. Failure to achieve this goal will result in the campus being faced with costly mitigation measures.
