Closure of North Pasteur Drive may cause shuttle and parking delays starting Monday, Nov. 7

The Stanford University Medical Center is closing North Pasteur Drive due to construction work to rebuild and expand its medical facilities. North Pasteur Drive will close on Monday, Nov. 7, and South Pasteur Drive will become a two-lane, two-way road to serve as the alternate route.  The North Pasteur Drive closure is expected to remain in effect through the majority of the new Stanford Hospital construction (estimated completion in 2017).

The North Pasteur Drive closure is expected to impact traffic in the area, including traffic flow into and out of Parking Structure 4. Effective Monday, Nov. 7, all vehicles must enter and exit the parking structure via South Pasteur Drive.

There may be slight delays to Marguerite shuttle service for Lines 1050A, C, MC, MC-Limited, SMP, and V. Visit the Marguerite real-time map and/or mybus.stanford.edu to find out when the next Marguerite shuttle will arrive at your stop.

Please allow additional time when traveling to and from the Medical Center on South Pasteur Drive and on Welch Road, which is now a one-way street with traffic heading westbound/southbound only. Due to traffic delays on Welch Road, AC Transit Line U stops on Welch Road will be removed effective Tuesday, Nov. 1. Line U stops will remain active on Quarry Road at Palo Road, Quarry Road near Crate and Barrel, Roth Way, and Campus Oval.

Consider an alternative commute

In light of these and future traffic impacts related to Stanford University Medical Center construction, this may be a good time to try alternative transportation. Check out our do-it-yourself commute planning tool or request a custom commute plan for transit and/or bicycle commuting. For bicycle route and bike safety assistance during construction, please send an email to bike-information@stanford.edu.

If alternative transportation works for you, eligible commuters may take advantage of Commute Club rewards and incentives, including up to $282 per year in Clean Air Cash or Carpool Credit. The Commute Club Fall Promotion currently offers additional prize drawings, including a part-time pledge.

If you have comments or questions, please send an email to transportation@stanford.edu or call 650.723.9362.

1 It is important for Parking & Transportation Services to communicate parking and alternative-transportation information to the campus. Under the 2000 General Use Permit (campus growth plan approved by Santa Clara County), the campus has a goal of "no net new peak-hour commute trips" over the life of the permit and must accommodate campus growth with a limited number of new parking spaces. Failure to achieve this goal will result in the campus being faced with costly mitigation measures.
