Stanford Transportation is aligned with Stanford University's sustainability commitment to reduce drive-alone and peak-hour commute trips and lower its collective carbon footprint. Our award-winning department provides one of the nation’s leading commute programs for affiliates, and we are committed to fostering solutions that serve the needs of both our current and future communities.

Highlights

  • The complimentary Marguerite Shuttle system, open to the public, encompasses 19 routes that traverse Stanford’s properties. The Marguerite moves about 6,250 people daily. Of the system’s 49 buses, 41 are 100% electric.
  • Subsidized transit passes allow free unlimited rides on Caltrain, VTA, and AC Transit for approximately 20,000+ University employees, SLAC employees, and Postdoctoral scholars.
  • A 100% lease subsidy for vanpools that travel to campus and the hospital from the Bay Area and beyond. Currently 18 routes are in service, reducing riders’ commute expense and carbon footprint by more than 80%.
  • Extensive bike benefits and education for 13,000+ bicyclists who traverse campus daily, resulting in a four-time Bike Friendly University platinum award designation.
  • The most extensive Zipcar car-sharing program of any college campus nationwide, with plenty of vehicles in convenient locations across Stanford properties.
  • An on-campus Hertz Car Rental branch with discounts available to students and affiliates.
  • Commute planning assistance and consultations, including custom transit, rideshare, and bike plans.
  • Resident, commuter, and visitor parking with more than 20,000 spaces across the Stanford and Stanford Redwood City campuses, including 183 electric vehicle charging ports.
  • A 46% reduction in scope 3 emissions from employee and student commuting between 2014 and 2022 due to Stanford Transportation’s many successful transportation demand management programs.
  • A full-service customer team that assists the Stanford community and campus visitors with parking and transportation needs via telephone and email.
