Free Carpool Permits
Enjoy premium, reserved parking until 10 a.m.
Free carpool permits are one of the main rewards of being a carpool member of the Stanford Commute Club. If you carpool to campus and are eligible, join the Commute Club to receive a free 'A' or 'C' carpool permit.
With your free carpool permit, enjoy parking in premium carpool parking spaces, which are located closer to campus destinations and are reserved for carpools until 10 a.m.
If you have an ‘A’ carpool permit, you may park in ‘A’ or ‘C’ carpool spaces. If those spots are full, you may park in any available ‘A’ or ‘C’ parking space at any time. With a ‘C’ carpool permit, you may park in ‘C’ carpool spaces. If those spaces are full, you may park in any available ‘C’ parking space.
If you don't currently carpool and want to find others at Stanford with whom to carpool or vanpool, contact the Commute Club for help with your alternative commute.
Who is eligible and what do they get?
To receive a free carpool permit, you must meet all of the eligibility requirements for the Commute Club and must not have any Stanford parking permit other than the carpool permit, daily scratchers, or an "SH" permit, if applicable, during the time you are a member of the Commute Club.
|Number of People in Carpool||Free Permit|
|2||Free 'C'-Carpool permit*|
|3||Free 'A'-Carpool permit**|
|4||Free 'A' Carpool permit**|
*Two-person carpools have the option of choosing an ‘A’-Carpool permit and paying the difference between the ‘C’ and ‘A’ permit rate.
**Carpools with 'A'-Carpool permits can also park in 'C'-Carpool and 'C' spaces, with the exception of spaces in Hoover Pavilion Garage.
Please note: Anyone found to be in violation of the Commute Club and/or parking permit policies set forth by Parking & Transportation Services (P&TS) is subject to revocation of transportation incentives and/or parking privileges. Instances of egregious misconduct may result in further administrative, disciplinary, and/or legal action, up to and including termination of employment or expulsion.
In case of an emergency...
- "What if my child gets sick and I have to leave immediately?"
- "What if my carpool driver needs to leave without me unexpectedly?"
- "What if my neighbor calls to tell me that my home is on fire?"
The answer to these and other issues is Stanford's free Emergency Ride Home program. You are automatically enrolled in Stanford's Emergency Ride Home program when you join the Commute Club.
