- You no longer accrue monthly free driving credits as of July 31.
- Your annual membership will end one year from when you signed up for Zipcar. You will then be transferred to a regular student membership at an annual membership rate of $15 per year.
- You can log in to Zipcar to verify your membership and to find out when you joined.
- If you would like to close your Zipcar account, please visit their website for more information.
About the EVGR Car Free Club
The EVGR Car Free Club was announced in July 2017. It was an incentive program for eligible residents affected by construction in Escondido Village who chose not to purchase a long-term or monthly parking permit and signed up for the program through our online portal.
Members received a free annual Zipcar membership, one free hour of driving credit each month, and various rewards through the Car Freebie point system. The Car Freebie points were accrued each month that a resident remained in the EVGR Car Free Club and could be cashed in when a resident’s name was drawn in the quarterly drawings. Prizes included reimbursements towards ride-hailing services (e.g., Uber, Lyft, and taxi rides), online shopping, and transit (e.g. Caltrain/Clipper card).
Additionally, if a member was not drawn in any of the quarterly drawings for the academic year, they were eligible for a year-end membership gift.
Enrollment in the program was suspended on April 1, 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the significant decline in the number of residents on campus. It was originally scheduled to conclude at the end of the 2020 spring quarter and ended two months earlier than planned.
Alternatives to having your own car on campus
There are many options and resources for residents who choose not to bring a car to campus, including Zipcar, the free Marguerite shuttle, and bicycling.
