FAQ About EVGR Car Free Club
What is the EVGR Car Free Club?
The EVGR Car Free Club is an incentive program for residents affected by construction who choose not to purchase a long-term or monthly parking permit. Choosing to go “car free” helps reduce traffic and parking demand on campus and helps residents save significantly on vehicle and permit costs.
Who is eligible for the EVGR Car Free Club?
Residents who are eligible to purchase ‘ES’ permits and who opt out of purchasing long-term or monthly parking permits are eligible to join the EVGR Car Free Club. Participation is voluntary.

When can I apply?
Sign up for the EVGR Car Free Club! Enrollment is open now! Eligible residents can sign up using our online portal.
What will I receive by joining the EVGR Car Free Club?
Upon signing-up, all members receive a free annual Zipcar membership and one free hour of driving credit each month.
Additional EVGR Car Free Club rewards are based on the "Car Freebie" point system.
Members receive a sign-up bonus, which can be cashed in after completing one month of EVGR Car Free Club membership. In addition, members receive a Car Freebie point allowance each month. These Car Freebie points can only be cashed in if the member’s name is drawn in a quarterly drawing.
EVGR Car Free Club members who have not redeemed their Car Freebie points by the end of the academic year will have the opportunity to cash them in for a membership gift.

What if I am an existing Zipcar member?
All EVGR Car Free Club members receive one hour of free driving credit each month. Existing Zipcar members can request to have their current account associated with the EVGR Car Free Club by sending an email to GoCarFree@stanford.edu.
Existing Zipcar members who join the EVGR Car Free Club may be eligible for a membership fee reimbursement, if they signed up for or renewed their Zipcar membership after July 1, 2017. Existing Zipcar members who signed up for or renewed their Zipcar membership before July 1, 2017, are not eligible for membership fee reimbursement. However, Zipcar will waive the fee when they next renew their membership.

How is it possible that I am enrolled for future months?
When you sign up, we ask that you enroll for all months you intend to be a member of the EVGR Car Free Club. If you have to un-enroll for any reason, we will remove those months from your record. To be eligible for each month, members must be active on campus at least half the month. If you will be away from campus more than two weeks of the month, you would not be eligible for those months.
Why is there a difference between the number of points I have earned and the number of points I am eligible to redeem?
Car Freebie Points become redeemable in two ways: (1) 30 bonus points automatically become available after one month of membership. (2) Membership points accrue monthly, but they are not available to be redeemed unless your name is drawn in a quarterly drawing. If your name has not been drawn by the end of the year, your points will become available to redeem a membership gift.

Do I have to redeem all of my available points at the same time or by a deadline?
You do not have to redeem all of your points at once. You can access the portal multiple times. You do, however, need to redeem your points by the end of academic year (August 31).
What if I don’t have my receipt for a reimbursement I want to submit?
Make sure that you hold onto your receipts! Many Car Freebie Points incentives require that you upload a valid receipt. Receipts can be dated from any time within academic year 2017-18. If you do not have a receipt, contact us at GoCarFree@stanford.edu to determine whether you have an alternative form of validation.
I have 5 points remaining. Can I submit a receipt that exceeds that amount?
Yes. Reimbursements for a portion of your total expense are available with Car Freebie points. (This applies to point amounts greater than 5 also.)
My name wasn’t drawn in the fall quarterly drawing. Do I get to keep the points I accrued and continue to accumulate more?
Yes. If you didn’t win a quarterly drawing, you retain all of the points you accrued. If you win a later drawing, you’ll be able to redeem all of your accrued points.
If I leave the EVGR Car Free Club and come back, will I lose all of my points?
No. Your Car Freebie Points will wait for you! But you won’t accrue any points for the months that you’re not in the club, and you won’t be eligible for the quarterly drawings.
Do the points accumulate year over year?
No. The EVGR Car Free Club is based on an academic-year membership. Budgets are set annually, and points must be redeemed and payments must be made within the same fiscal year.
Why was the EVGR Car Free Club created?
During construction of the Escondido Village Graduate Residences, parking will be tighter in surrounding parking areas, and residents may need to walk farther between parking and their residences. The EVGR Car Free Club was created to reduce parking demand by encouraging the use of sustainable transportation options and car-free resources on campus.
