FAQ: Stanford Transportation is Moving to Stanford Redwood City
Find answers to your questions about Stanford Transportation's move and how it might affect you. Please note that our retail counter closed on June 21, 2019. As of July 1, our department name has changed to Stanford Transportation (formerly Parking & Transportation Services).

When is Stanford Transportation closing its retail counter?
Our retail counter closed permanently as of Monday June 24, 2019. The last day that our retail counter was open was Friday June 21.
In anticipation of this change, we have transitioned most of our processes online. You can continue to complete the following transactions online, without coming to our office:
- Buy a parking permit and sign up for the Commute Club through our virtual parking permit system.
- Access the Pre-Tax Transit and Commuter Benefits Portal.
- Request a Caltrain Go Pass and/or VTA SmartPass.
As of June 20, you can purchase virtual department daily permits through our online ordering portal (pre-registration required). Long-term department, vendor, contractor, and group/reserved event parking permits are available by filling out a form. What will happen when Stanford Transportation closes its retail counter?
Anticipating that Stanford Transportation would be moving to Stanford Redwood City, we have been transitioning our physical processes to be online, including virtual parking permits, Pre-Tax Transit and Commuter Benefits, and Caltrain Go Pass, and VTA SmartPass on Clipper.
We are implementing the following additional changes as of June 20 to replace in-person transactions :
- Department daily permits are available in the online ordering portal (pre-registration required).
- Long-term department and vendor permits are available through Aug. 31, 2019, by filling out the Department/Vendor Permit Order Form.
- Contractor permits are available through Aug. 31, 2019, by filling out the Contractor Permit Order Form.
- Group/reserved event parking are requested by filling out our Event Permit Order Form.
We plan to transition to online bike registration in the near future. In the meantime, bicycle registration will continue to be available in person at different locations on the main campus on the first Friday of every month. Visit the Bicycle page for upcoming events. At Stanford Redwood City, bicycle registration will be available on the first Friday of every month near Cardinal Hall.
You will continue to be able to reach us by email at transportation@stanford.edu or phone at 650.723.9362 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. Please anticipate that during several days of the actual move, our staff will be temporarily displaced, and our phone response capabilities may be curtailed.

What will happen with department/vendor parking permits?
As of June 20, the following processes have changed:
- Department daily permits are available in the online ordering portal (pre-registration required).
- Long-term department are available by filling out the Department/Vendor Permit Order Form.
- Vendor permits are available by first having the Stanford sponsoring department fill out the Vendor Sponsorship Form. Then complete Department/Vendor Permit Order Form.
- Contractor permits are available by filling out the Contractor Order Form.
- Group/reserved event permits are available by filling out the Event Permit Order Form.

Please be aware of the following regarding department permits:
- PCards will no longer be accepted
- University departments will be required to provide a PTA
- Hospital departments will be required to provide a Cost Center account
- Contractors and vendors will be able to purchase permits with Visa, Mastercard, or Discover.
We encourage departments to continue to use their existing supply of valid physical parking permits before they expire. Departments can also request an exchange or refund for unused physical daily permits before Nov. 29, 2019. Please note that our office is closed Nov. 28 and 29, however, as long as your permits are postmarked on or before Nov. 29, you will still receive a refund.

How will I purchase group/reserved event parking?
Completing an Event Order Permit Form is required for all reservations.

How will departments return their physical long-term permits?
Departments can request a refund or exchange their unused physical daily permits by Nov. 29, 2019. If departments would like to return or exchange their physical long-term permits, please contact us at transportation@stanford.edu or 650.723.9362.

What if I have unused, expired physical daily permits?
Please contact us at transportation@stanford.edu or 650.723.9362, and we will work with you to exchange your unused, expired physical daily permits.
Please note your permit expiration dates and use them before they expire:
- All physical daily permits expire as of Dec. 31, 2019.
- Individuals are not eligible for a refund for unused physical daily permits due to IRS restrictions. We encourage you to use your physical permits as soon as possible and before Dec. 31, 2019.
- Departments can request an exchange or refund for unused physical daily permits before Nov. 29, 2019. The permits must be postmarked on or before Nov. 29.

How can I register my bike?
Bike registration will continue to be an in-person process. We will be hosting monthly bike registration events.
On the main campus, we are planning to host on-site registration on a monthly basis. Visit the Bicycle page for upcoming events.
At Stanford Redwood City, we are hosting on-site bike registration on the first Wednesday of the month near Cardinal Hall. View the upcoming bike events at SRWC on our website.

How will SH and Emeritus parking permits work?
If you have an SH or Emeritus permit, please continue to use your current permit until it expires on Dec. 31, 2019. If you have questions or need a new permit, please contact us at 650.723.9362 or transportation@stanford.edu. We will also be reaching out to you directly in the late fall and will gladly help you if you need assistance in the meantime.
