Register a Bike Online
Stanford’s Department of Public Safety launched a new online bike registration program in 2020. You can now register your bike online. It is free and allows you to upload a photo of your bike to verify ownership.
Why register your bike?
Bike registration provides proof the bike belongs to you in case of loss and/or theft.
Where can I register my bike?
Bike registration will now be free and only available online. The Department of Public Safety (DPS) will manage it through the Project 529 Garage bicycle registration program. Please note that Stanford Transportation no longer manages bike registration.
With bike registration being online, in-person bike registration events are no longer hosted by Stanford Transportation.
Santa Clara County and San Mateo County have rescinded the bike registration requirement. This means that there is no law requiring that bicyclists register their bikes. However, DPS strongly recommends riders register their bikes. That way, if your bike is stolen, you can use the Project 529 system to broadcast alerts and share a photo of your bike.

What if my bike is already registered?
Bikes registered in the past by Stanford Transportation are still listed in the database in case you need to access your last registration. Contact DPS at police@stanford.edu or 650.723.9633 if a copy of your registration is needed.
