On Jan. 1, 2019, the Caltrain Go Pass and VTA SmartPass will automatically renew. This means that current Go Pass and SmartPass holders don’t need to stand in line or come to our office to request their 2019 Go Pass and SmartPass.

If you already have a VTA SmartPass and/or Go Pass on your Clipper card, P&TS will automatically renew your pass(es) to be valid starting Jan. 1, 2019, and you do not need to take any action.

Go Passes automatically reload every four months

While the Go Pass and SmartPass continue to be valid for the full calendar year, the 2019 Go Pass will be activated in four month increments to avoid Clipper’s 180-day deactivation policy. If you remain eligible, P&TS will automatically renew your Go Pass every four months (i.e., April, August, and December), and you do not need to take any action.

What is the Go Pass and SmartPass?

The Caltrain Go Pass is an annual transit pass that covers unlimited rides on Caltrain. It can save you thousands of dollars a year on your commute and is free to all eligible university employees, hospital employees, and postdoctoral scholars and graduate students.

The VTA SmartPass (formerly the Eco Pass) offers unlimited travel on VTA buses and light rail, the Dumbarton Express, Highway 17 Express (with E sticker) and Monterey-San Jose Express (with E sticker). It is free to eligible hospital and university employees.

What If You Don’t Currently Have a SmartPass and/or Go Pass?

If you don’t currently have a 2018 Caltrain Go Pass or VTA SmartPass on your Clipper card and are eligible, you can request the pass(es) by filling out our Go Pass/SmartPass request form.
