The Serra Street roundabout is expected to open on the evening of Saturday, Aug. 18. The roundabout is part of a larger effort to transform East Campus, which will include new graduate residences, childcare centers, underground parking garages, public safety facilities and a new, extensive Manzanita recreation area.

Please expect the following closures on Campus Drive between Serra Street and Escondido Road due to construction on the roundabout.

  • Tuesday, Aug. 14: Clockwise direction (southbound)
  • Saturday, Aug. 18: Counterclockwise direction (northbound)

On both days, affected traffic will be rerouted via Serra Street, Arguello Way, and Escondido Road.

Bicyclists and pedestrians will continue to have access during construction, but they will need to follow detours and the directions of flaggers and should follow the safety tips found in the right column of the HeadsUp website.

Marguerite service and parking access

Marguerite buses will follow the detour route on Aug. 14 and 18.

  • No stops will be affected on Aug. 14.
  • The Campus Drive and Escondido Road stop (stop #18) of Line SE will be closed on Aug. 18. An alternative bus stop is located at Campus Drive and Bowdoin Street (stop #19)

Please also note that there will be no access to the parking lot by Escondido Village Studio 2 on Aug. 18.

Navigating roundabouts on campus

Roundabouts are designed to increase safety for all users by enabling bicycles and cars to move through the intersection more efficiently and reducing confusion about who has the right of way.

When navigating a roundabout, make sure to slow when approaching, look for pedestrians in the crosswalks, and yield to bikes and cars in the roundabout. Bicycles and vehicles must share the road. Cyclists should walk, not ride, in roundabout crosswalks.

Please refer to Project Management’s map of the area for more information on closures and detours.
