Meet Stella and Maggie….
Our New Marguerite and Bike Safety Anime Mascots
In time for May’s Pedal Together Challenge, we’re excited to introduce our new Marguerite and Bike Safety Anime Mascots — Stella and Maggie. Last fall, we held a contest to promote a campus biking culture and safety campaign as part of Transportation’s broader, award-winning sustainable commute initiatives. We asked student artists to create original anime characters. We received so many creative entries, it was hard to choose just one. So we chose two!
Sera Wang ‘25 MA and Morgan Su ‘29 PhD partnered with Stanford Transportation to develop the artwork. The characters will be featured in four-panel manga, a Japanese-style comic format. Our first installment will go live on our Instagram (@stanfordonthemove) on April 30. Be sure to follow us as the stories unfold.
Now, without further ado…
Meet Stella
Stella is a typical Stanford student, but when a cyclist is in need, she transforms into a mahou shoujo (magical girl), and her alter ego takes over. How will Stella use her superpowers to save the day and help keep cyclists safe on campus? Follow @stanfordonthemove to find out. In serialized installments, Stella will also help promote the Stanford bike program’s five E's—Education, Equity, Engineering, Encouragement, and Evaluation—priorities that helped us become the first university in the country to earn four-time Platinum-Level Bicycle-Friendly University status.
Meet Maggie
Meet Maggie, a typical Stanford student, who depends on the Marguerite Shuttle to transport her and her sidekick, Traffic Turtle (TT), to and from class every day. Maggie and TT are definitely kawaii, Japanese for cute. But they’re here to inform everyone – especially students – about Stanford’s robust, free shuttle service, including as a first- and last-mile connector between the Palo Alto Transit Center and various Stanford campus locations. Maggie will also spread the word about the Shopping Express route, which whisks riders to off-campus stores and restaurants Friday through Sunday. "I hope people enjoy Maggie and TT’s escapades and learn some new things along the way,” said Morgan.
Special Acknowledgement
Thank you to Nico Ronquillo Baradi, Transportation field agent, for sharing his boundless creativity and for first bringing this campaign idea to our marketing team in June 2025. "I'm excited to bring a fresh and fun take on mascots to Stanford and for new ways to interact with the community through things like photo ops and cosplay," said Nico.
