Transit passes extended into 2021
Stanford-issued Caltrain Go Passes will be extended through Dec. 31, 2021, for eligible university and hospital employees.
No action is required if you are a university (including SLAC) or hospital employee who currently has a Stanford-issued Caltrain Go Pass on your Clipper card. The extension for 2021 will be applied automatically. If you have a Caltrain Go Pass, it is now valid through Dec. 31, 2021.
For graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, the Pilot Go Pass is scheduled to be deactivated automatically on March 31.
If you continue to need your pass beyond March 31, you must complete the Pilot Go Pass Reactivation Form by Friday, March 12, to request an extension. Visit our article to learn more.
To compensate transit pass holders for the service reductions and loss of use during the mandatory COVID-19 shelter-in-place order, VTA has extended the expiration date for its 2020 SmartPass beyond the original expiration of Dec. 31, 2020.
If you have a 2020 VTA SmartPass, it is now valid through May 31, 2021.
No action is required on the part of current SmartPass holders. The extension will be applied to your pass automatically. We plan to communicate more about the status of SmartPasses prior to their expiration.
Stanford-issued AC Transit EasyPasses will be extended through 2021. This means that university, SLAC, and hospital employees who currently have an EasyPass, or are eligible for one, will continue to enjoy free, unlimited travel on AC Transit in 2021 as long as they remain active at Stanford and continue to meet the eligibility requirements.
No action is required if you currently have a Stanford-issued AC Transit EasyPass on your Clipper card. The extension for 2021 will be applied to your EasyPass automatically.
While the Caltrain Go Pass, VTA SmartPass, and AC Transit EasyPass are valid for the full calendar year, the Go Pass will be activated in four month increments to avoid Clipper’s 180-day deactivation policy.
If you remain eligible, Stanford Transportation will automatically renew your Go Pass every four months (i.e., April, August, and December), and you do not need to take any action.
If you don’t currently have a Caltrain Go Pass, VTA SmartPass, or AC Transit EasyPass on your Clipper card and are eligible, you can request the pass(es) by filling out our Transit Pass Request Form.
