Stanford Transportation welcomed new frosh and sophomore students to campus on Sept. 14 and 17. With a Mobile Bike Concierge event at White Plaza, we greeted excited new students along with their families and answered questions about biking around campus.

Among those who stopped by were Serena Lee, ‘25, from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Before arriving, she heard Stanford was a big biking community and found that daunting.

“I’ve cycled before but am not the most confident, especially on roads,” she said. “That’s something my friends are worried about.”

Luckily, Ariadne Delon Scott, assistant director of active mobility at Stanford, was on hand to assuage any neophyte nerves, and reaffirm her position as the campus’ number one biking enthusiast.

“It’s exciting to be back on campus with students and to see so many choosing to bike,” Scott said. “Stanford is a Platinum-Level Bicycle Friendly University, and part of this award is for our commitment to promoting bike safety. New students get our special attention.”

Scott encouraged Serena, and all who stopped by, to sign up for the Bike Safety Training on Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Maples Lot, where new students will receive a complimentary bike safety check and learn how to keep their bikes secure. They’ll also pick up tips to navigate campus on two wheels and more.

“Free bike lights to the first 200 sign-ups?” asked Serena, reading the flyer. “I could really use one. Sign me up!”

Cheers to the Class of 2025. May you ride on happily and safely for the next four years and beyond.
