  • How can I find out which Stanford-issued passes (Caltrain Go Pass, VTA SmartPass, AC Transit EasyPass) I’m eligible for or which existing passes are still active?
  • Are my transit passes transferable to friends and family?
    • No, passes are not transferable. Fraudulent use and transfer for any Stanford-issued passes is a serious violation of the program and can result in confiscation and potential fines.
  • Should I tag on and off?
  • VTA, AC Transit and Caltrain all require you to tag on each time you ride; only Caltrain requires you to tag off after arriving at your destination. Our video shows how to tag on and off with your Clipper Card

Do any transit agencies require me to show my Stanford ID?

  • In the case of Caltrain, it is required to confirm the Go Pass holder is an eligible Stanford employee or student. Caltrain may ask a Go Pass holder to present their valid Stanford ID along with their tagged Clipper Card when performing a fare check.

Should I register my Clipper Card with Clipper?

  • Yes, registering your Clipper card is advised in case you lose your card (Clipper will send you a new one with your balance restored for a small fee) or wish to check your balance/manage your account online or in the Clipper app.

Can I have fun with my transit passes?

Yes, please. While our pass program is designed to primarily assist with your commute, as an added bonus, you can also use your passes 24/7 to travel to a Giants game, get to the airport or to skip the high cost of parking while spending the day in the city.
