Pre-Tax Parking Purchases
Pre-tax purchases are made only through payroll deduction. Customers may enroll or change their enrollment in the program throughout the year. P&TS works with Stanford’s payroll departments (University and Hospitals) every pay period to process the applicable deductions for that pay period.
How it works
- Prorated purchases. To maximize participant benefits in the program, all permit costs will be divided into a series of monthly payroll deductions rather than from a single paycheck. This way, the monthly cap is not reached and the entire cost of the permit will be deducted from an individual's pre-tax income.
- One deduction will be taken per month. Depending on the date of your purchase, payments will be deducted from either your first or second paycheck during the month.
Deductions for all permit purchases will continue until the full price of the permit is paid or until the permit is returned (Daily parking permit purchases occur as a one-time deduction. All permits purchased with pre-tax deductions are non-refundable).
Please review the Pre-Tax Policies page for more information on employee responsibilities.
There are two ways to enroll:
- Enroll online for parking payroll deduction (except carpool applicants)
- Submit a paper application form
Participants must sign a salary reduction agreement, contained in the parking permit application, acknowledging that their paycheck will be reduced and that the items purchased will be used for personal commute purposes.
Although payment for the permits will be deducted from a series of pay periods, only one reduction agreement needs to be signed per year.
Eligible Commute Club members are also able to purchase daily parking permits with pre-tax dollars. Refer to our Commute Club page for more information
If you would like to make a pre-tax transit or Commuter Check purchase, please review our Pre-Tax Transit and Commuter Benefits page.
