Frequently Asked Questions About Pre-Tax Transit and Commuter Benefits
Stanford University offers eligible commuters the option to use pre-tax dollars to make transit purchases. This program could mean a savings of up to 40 percent on commute-related expenses. Edenred Commuter Benefits administers the university's pre-tax transit program.
Here are answers to questions you may have about pre-tax transit and commuter benefits.
How do I get started?

This link will redirect to the LPCHS Intranet, which will require a valid LPCHS account for access.
What can pre-tax commuter transit dollars be used to purchase?
Commuters can purchase the same types of pre-tax commuter purchases as they did before this change, such as transit passes, Caltrain parking, Clipper Cash, and commuter checks. In addition, new options have been added, including BART parking. For more information, visit our Who and What are Eligible for Pre-Tax Purchases? page.
What is the ordering deadline to receive an order the following month?
Orders must be placed through Edenred’s portal by no later than the 9th of the preceding month. For example, if you want to receive an order in March, you must place your order by Feb. 9.
Why does some of the language on the Edenred site not fit the Stanford context?
Please be aware that Edenred’s system appears the same way for all of their clients, so they are unable to pre-populate some of the information specifically for Stanford, such as the cost of Caltrain parking. In some cases, the wording may not fit Stanford’s situation, because they are using generic terms that apply to all companies using their system. For example, where their form asks for the “Parking Account Number” for Caltrain parking, the correct number to enter is your Clipper card number.
