How to Avoid a Parking Citation and Other Parking Hacks
No one likes to come back to their vehicle to find a violation notice in their windshield. To help you avoid this, we've put together tips based on the common reasons customers are cited. To avoid a citation, follow these five tips:
-
Purchase the correct parking permit for the space and ensure your vehicle information is linked to your permit. Ensure you have associated your vehicle with the Stanford permit or ParkMobile visitor parking you purchased. If you have a valid permit but don’t have a vehicle linked to it, even if you have one listed under “vehicles,” you will get a citation. The vehicle information must be associated with a permit.
-
Confirm the accuracy of your license plate or VIN. Common errors include entering the letter “O” instead of the number “0” (zero).
-
Vehicles awaiting permanent plates - Enter the temporary number. If unavailable, enter the last 8 characters of the VIN. IMPORTANT: Update with the permanent number once you have it.
-
Be sure to update your license plate information (e.g. if you had a temporary/dealer plate with a new car.)
-
-
Ensure your permit is valid for the correct duration. Some commuters don’t realize they selected an end date that is earlier than they intended. Check to make sure your permit end date is correct. Observe posted time limits.
-
Enter your license plate without special characters. If you have special characters, simply omit them.
-
Complete your order fully. You will know your order was completed successfully if you receive an email confirmation. Carpool and vanpool permits are only issued once all carpool and vanpool members have completed the online process. Make sure all members select their payment method and click pay to complete the registration.
