Manage Your Carpool
Applying for a carpool permit
To apply for a carpool permit:
- Check the eligibility of each potential carpool member.
- Form your carpool group in our online portal.
- Apply for a carpool using our online portal.
Each carpool member must meet the eligibility requirements for the Commute Club, and each member must enter their information on our online portal when forming the carpool group.
Your permit will be valid as soon as you complete the request for your carpool permit or for the date you have chosen.
Please refer to the following “how to” pages for step-by-step instructions on how to form your carpool and request a parking permit on our online portal:
- How to Start a Carpool
- How to Join an Existing Carpool
- How to Request a Carpool Permit

If your carpool grows
Make sure to add your new member to the carpool group using our online portal.
If your carpool is successful and you have several other individuals interested in joining, consider starting a vanpool. Read more about starting a vanpool in our vanpool section.
If your carpool changes or ends
If your carpool changes (e.g., one member is on leave) and still has at least two eligible members, you must update your carpool's information on the online portal. In most cases, you will be able to continue using your existing permit. If your carpool changes from three or more members to two members, you will have 48 hours to get back up to three members. Otherwise, your carpool permit will cancel automatically and you will need to reapply for a 2-person carpool permit. You will then have the option of paying the difference in price between the 'A' and 'C' permits or switching to the free 'C'-Carpool permit.
Update your carpool information whenever there is a change or expected change in your carpool to retain carpool privileges for eligible members. If you have further questions about carpooling, call us at 650.723.9362 or email us at email@example.com.
Please note: Fraudulent enrollment in a Stanford carpool is a violation of Stanford's policies. Anyone found to be in violation of the carpool policies set forth by Parking & Transportation Services (P&TS) will immediately forfeit Commute Club privileges and be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment or expulsion.
