Real Estate Operations
Real Estate Operations is moving to Stanford Redwood City in late June. Before their move, Leonie Batkin, managing director of asset management, wanted to help her group, identify their commuting options to Stanford Redwood City.
How did they do it?
In December, Leonie surveyed her Real Estate group to identify who was interested in trying their commutes by Caltrain to the new Redwood City campus.
There were 11 people who wanted to try the train commute, five of whom already commute by train or bus.
In late January, Leonie recruited four drive-alone commuters to meet the transit commuters at the Redwood City Transit Center. They paired experienced commuters with others who are new to commuting by public transportation.
What did they do at Redwood City?
Their first stop was the construction office at 500 Broadway, where they were given refreshments and a briefing on the status of the project. The construction office is not available for meetings now that the campus is open. Our recommendation is to meet at the Cardinal Café.
The four drivers then drove everyone to their offices at Porter Drive, and one person stayed in Redwood City to work remotely.
What did they learn?
Real Estate Operations participants reported being happy with the experience. Four of the drive-alone commuters decided to start taking Caltrain and connecting to the shuttle three to four days a week when they move to Stanford Redwood City.
Additionally, Leonie brainstormed sustainable alternatives on a one-on-one basis with the team to help curb uncertainty and fears around their new commutes.
