School of Medicine
School of Medicine employees are moving to Stanford Redwood City from late May through late June. Before their move, Promila Rastogi, director of Transformational Initiatives: People and Place, wanted to help her colleagues identify their commuting options to Stanford Redwood City.
How did they do it?
In early March, Promila surveyed the group to identify who was interested in trying the commute to Stanford Redwood City.
There were eight people who wanted to try the train commute to SRWC. There was also one bike commuter who wanted to try the train and bike commute.
In late March, Promila sent a field trip itinerary, including the Caltrain schedule, information about the Barron Garage, and carpool/vanpool information, with support from Stanford Transportation.
What did they do at Redwood City?
In early April, the day started with School of Medicine employees trying their commutes and meeting just before 8 a.m. at the Cardinal Café.
The group took a tour of the Cardinal Café, where they had the option to purchase coffee and breakfast. They then took a look at the Conference Center.
They also walked through the Recreation and Wellness Center. Their tour ended at Barron Garage where they toured the bike cage and parking structure. At the end of the tour, the Caltrain riders walked to the Commute.org stop to be picked up at 8:50 a.m. and connected to Caltrain for the trip back to their offices.
What did they learn?
School of Medicine participants reported being happy with the experience and were able to get a sense of how their respective commutes would work. They enjoyed the fitness center, the coffee, and the beautiful campus.
